“A new command I give you. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35, NIV
Love…How did Jesus love His disciples? He called them away from the comforts of this world into an intimate relationship. The disciples ate, slept, learned, laughed, cried and worked in ministry alongside Jesus. When Jesus came into their lives everything changed. Jesus was not afraid to speak the truth to His friends, even when it hurt (see Matthew 16:23 and 26:34). So how are we to love others? Only by loosening our grip on the possessions of this world will we learn how to obtain the true joy of heaven (see Matthew 13:44-46). Jesus taught us that the most valuable things are free, yet they will cost us our lives.
