Thousands of years ago tribes worshipped, bowed down, prayed to and followed the directions of ungodly priests and their false idols. They used phony sculptures made of wood, metal and stones to shape the “religion” of the people and to further their own selfish desires.
Today we witness many wolves in sheep’s clothing disguised as prophets, healers and evangelists, all with the same goal: money. Some declare great healing power (in the Stephen Ministry we are taught to listen and encourage knowing only Christ can do the healing). Others profess to be able to see into the future while others guarantee riches depending on the size of a persons offering. There is one “preacher” in particular whose entire program is devoted to raising money after reading a short biblical passage. He pleads for money whether it is in the form of a “love offering,” a “church gift” or a “healing tithe.” People are led to his false promises in times of hardship and depression.
I received a letter years ago from one of these so called evangelists who said without my offering of $1000 his ministry would be forced to close. I never sent him a dime and guess what? He’s still on the air. Now that is a “miracle!” A while back he was exposed and ultimately apologized to his flock for sexual misconduct. I once knew a woman, the wife of a business associate, who sat day and night in front of her television. She had her checkbook in one hand and a bag of potato chips in the other. She would send hundreds of dollars to these money grabbers. These are just a few examples of how these individuals prey on the weak and lonely for their own personal benefit.
A limited few have been prosecuted and jailed but usually not for the blatant and unscrupulous way they raised the money. They are behind bars for the way they used it. You read where they spent thousands on luxury cars, enormous homes with all the bells and whistles, lavish vacations and extravagant retreats all in the name of the Trinity. And many use the examples of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in their money raising efforts. It is Biblically written that blasphemy is the ultimate no, no.
Listen closely as Jesus explains the one sin that will never be forgiven,
“And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
Matthew 12:31-32
So there it is in a nutshell.
Choose your words carefully.
