Make God Smile (by Gary Roberts)

“Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are.” Romans 12:9-16

When we see this world and our life as a gift from a loving Creator then it’s up to us to honor that gift by enjoying the life we’ve been given. So folks have a hard time enjoying life – they see most everything as a chore – a task to be done – the same ol same ol but it’s not – our daily life is a gift from a loving Creator.

Just think about it God has given us taste buds, nerve endings, the capacity to laugh, the ability to create, eyes to marvel, minds to wonder, noses to smell, and hands to feel. We give back to God in proportion to how much we enjoy these good gifts. When we enjoy one of the gifts that God has given us then we bring a smile to God – the Giver’s face.

With each moment we should desire to make God smile by learning to enjoy and appreciate the great and wonderful gifts God sends our way each and every moment.

The sad thing is that often people want to avoid work, cut corners, and do half-hearted jobs with the gifts God has given them. The diligent person stands out because they understand that all of life is a gift and they desire to do their very best in all things. When we practicing diligence in all the areas of our life – home, work and play we help others appreciate the many gifts of God that they are given.

We make God smile when others realize that we are living life in an excellent way for the glory of God at home, in the workplace, and where ever we go. So today complete each task, however big or small, with diligence for the glory of God because you desire to see God smile.

Let us pray: O God I do not want to lag in zeal in showing my love for You – I do want to make You smile God by the way I live my days with joy. Life is such a precious gift and often I forget this and take Your wonderful gifts for granted. I don’t want to do that Lord – I want to bring Glory to Your Name with each breath I take. I want to enjoy each moment You give me – this I pray in the Name of the One You called to be my Friend – Jesus. Amen
